Development Oversight Consulting
Development Oversight Consulting
Expert Guidance While You Develop Your Product
You may already have a manufacturer, product developer, patternmaker, or development team working on your product.
But that doesn't always mean you feel confident making the decisions that come with product development.
Is the product developing in the right direction?
Is the fit actually improving?
Are the materials appropriate for the product and price point?
Are you ready to approve the next sample—or are you moving forward too quickly?
Is the product truly ready for production?
Development Oversight Consulting gives you 5 hours access to an experienced fashion industry professional who can help you evaluate the work being done, identify potential issues, and make better-informed decisions throughout the development process.
You continue working with your existing service providers.
Human B provides the independent experience and technical guidance on your side of the process.
Who This Service Is For
Development Oversight Consulting is designed for founders and brands that already have a manufacturer, factory, freelancer, or development team but want experienced guidance throughout the product development process.
This service may be a good fit if:
You are developing your first product or collection.
You already have a manufacturer but aren't confident evaluating their recommendations or work.
You receive tech packs, samples, fit samples, materials, or production information and aren't always sure what you should be looking for.
You want an experienced professional to review key decisions before you approve the next stage.
You need guidance during fittings or sample reviews.
You want to identify potential problems before they become expensive production mistakes.
You want access to experienced product development guidance without hiring someone to manage the entire project.
You don't need another person doing the same work as your factory.
You need someone experienced helping you evaluate the work and make informed decisions.
Your Manufacturer Works for the Product.
We Work for You.
Manufacturers and development providers play an important role in bringing products to life.
But they are also responsible for managing their own development process, capabilities, timelines, and production requirements.
Development Oversight Consulting gives you an independent perspective.
We help you ask better questions, evaluate recommendations, understand trade-offs, and determine whether the product is ready to move forward.
The goal isn't to create conflict between you and your service providers.
The goal is to help you become a better-informed decision-maker throughout the development and production process.
How We Can Support You
Your consulting hours can be used for guidance and review in areas such as:
Product concept and development strategy.
Reviewing product direction and reference materials.
Reviewing tech packs and technical information.
Evaluating factory or developer recommendations.
Reviewing fabric, trim, and construction decisions.
Fit sessions and sample reviews.
Fit and construction guidance.
Reviewing sample revisions and development progress.
Identifying potential production risks.
Evaluating whether a product is ready to move toward production.
Preparing for important conversations or decisions with your manufacturer.
Guidance when development problems arise.
The specific areas we focus on will depend on your product, development stage, and priorities.
Start With a Development Strategy Session
Your engagement begins with a deeper review of your product and current development process.
We'll discuss:
Your product concept and target customer.
Your intended price point and market positioning.
Your product references and development direction.
Who you're currently working with and what they are responsible for.
Your development timeline and production goals.
Important decisions that still need to be made.
Potential gaps or risks in the current process.
From there, we'll identify where the remaining consulting time can provide the most value as your product moves through development.
The 5-Hour Development Oversight Package
The package includes five hours of access to experienced product development guidance.
Your time can be used strategically throughout your development process for consultations, document reviews, technical guidance, sample reviews, fittings, and other agreed-upon advisory support.
Consulting time is tracked in 15-minute increments, and document and file review time counts toward your consulting hours.
Your 5 consulting hours are available for 90 days from the date of purchase, giving you the flexibility to use your time at key stages throughout the development process.
Additional consulting hours may be purchased if ongoing support is needed.
What Development Oversight Does Not Include
Development Oversight Consulting is an advisory service.
Unless separately agreed upon, the service does not include:
Managing your manufacturer or development providers.
Acting as your production manager.
Creating or revising tech packs, patterns, or graded specifications.
Patternmaking or sample making.
Fabric or trim sourcing.
Writing complete factory fit comments or technical reports.
Negotiating with manufacturers.
Quality control inspections.
Production management.
If your project requires more hands-on development or production support, Human B can discuss additional services and determine the appropriate scope of work.
Why Work With Human B?
Product development involves hundreds of decisions.
Many founders only discover which decisions were important after something goes wrong.
Human B brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience in fashion product development and production.
We've worked with emerging designers, established brands, manufacturers, patternmakers, sample rooms, and production teams to develop products and move them successfully into production.
Our role is not simply to tell you what to do.
It's to help you understand the consequences of your decisions, identify potential risks, and move forward with greater clarity.
You Don't Have to Manage Product Development Alone
Having a manufacturer doesn't mean you should have to make every development decision without experienced guidance.
Get an independent, experienced perspective on your side of the process.
FAQ
Do I need to already have a manufacturer or development team?
This service is primarily designed for founders and brands that are already working with a manufacturer, factory, product developer, patternmaker, or other development provider and want experienced, independent guidance throughout the process.
If you have not yet started product development or need Human B to manage the entire process from concept through production, one of our full product development services may be a better fit.
What can I use my consulting hours for?
Your consulting hours can be used for agreed-upon advisory support related to your product development process. This may include reviewing tech packs and development materials, sample and fit reviews, fittings, evaluating materials or construction decisions, discussing factory recommendations, identifying potential risks, and helping you prepare for important development and production decisions.
How long do I have to use my consulting hours?
Your 5 consulting hours are available for 90 days from the date of purchase. This gives you the flexibility to use your time as development questions, samples, fittings, and important decisions arise throughout the process. Any unused hours expire at the end of the 90-day period.
How is consulting time tracked?
Consulting time is tracked in 15-minute increments. Time spent in meetings, reviewing documents, samples, tech packs, photos, videos, or other project materials, as well as preparing recommendations or technical guidance, counts toward your consulting hours.
Can you communicate directly with my manufacturer?
Development Oversight Consulting is primarily an advisory service between you and Human B. We can review manufacturer communications, help you prepare questions and responses, and advise you on technical and development decisions.
If direct factory communication, ongoing coordination, or management of the development process is needed, we can discuss a separate scope of work.
Can you attend fittings or review physical samples?
Yes. Consulting hours may be used for in-person fittings, remote fit sessions, or physical sample reviews when appropriate and agreed upon in advance.
Shipping, courier costs, fit model fees, travel, and other third-party expenses are not included in the consulting package.
What happens if I use all five hours?
You may purchase additional consulting hours if you need continued advisory support.
If your project begins to require more hands-on involvement, such as ongoing factory communication, technical development, sourcing, or production management, we may recommend transitioning to another Human B service with a scope that better fits your needs.
Will Development Oversight Consulting guarantee that my product is production-ready or prevent production problems?
No. Product development and manufacturing involve many factors, including the work performed by your manufacturer and other service providers.
Development Oversight Consulting provides independent professional guidance to help you evaluate information, identify potential risks, and make better-informed decisions. Final product approvals and decisions remain the responsibility of the client, and Human B cannot guarantee the performance of third-party manufacturers or service providers.
Is this service right for first-time founders?
Yes. This service can be especially valuable for first-time founders who are already working with a manufacturer or development provider but do not have the industry experience to confidently evaluate the work being done or make technical product development decisions on their own.
We can help you understand the development process, ask better questions, review key decisions, identify potential risks, and provide an experienced perspective as your product moves from development toward production.
You don't need to know everything about product development to use this service. However, you should be actively developing a product and prepared to make decisions, work with your service providers, and invest the time and resources needed to move your project forward.
